Dental implants are an excellent option for anyone missing all or most of their upper or lower teeth. However, some people were not candidates for implants in the past because they needed more jawbone density or needed bone grafts to support the implants. The All-On-Four procedure eliminates the need for bone grafting for many of our patients, reducing recovery times and allowing them to leave our office with a complete set of functional teeth in less time.

What Makes All-On-Four Dental Implants Unique?

All-On-Four dental implants use four strategically placed titanium implants to support a full arch of prosthetic teeth in place. The prosthetic resembles a denture but is thinner, lighter, and more natural-looking. It is secured in place and cannot be removed except by a dentist or oral surgeon, giving you the look, feel, and function of natural teeth.

Because only four implants are used, surgical trauma is minimized, and bone grafts are not needed, contributing to a faster recovery time. When your oral surgeon places the implants, they will angle them in the back of the mouth to maximize their stability and create a stable foundation for restorations.

All-On-Four Procedure

The All-On-Four procedure is performed by one of our oral surgeons in our office surgical suite. You are sedated, and the area is numbed for your comfort. For most patients, the procedure takes one to two hours. After surgery, we provide a temporary arch of replacement teeth while your jawbone heals.

During this healing phase, your dentist or prosthodontist will design and create your permanent replacement teeth. After several weeks (usually 6-10 weeks), you will return to our office to have the permanent teeth attached to the implants. However, the implants may take up to six months to fully fuse with the jawbone. Your All-On-Four dental restoration will look and feel like your natural teeth and can last for 30 years or more.

Who is a Candidate for All-On-Four Dental Implants?

Anyone missing all or most of their teeth who is in good health and has sufficient jawbone mass can get All-On-Four Implants. Many people unhappy with dentures choose All-On-Four, particularly if their teeth have been missing for a long time. To determine whether you are a candidate, our surgeons will review your medical history, perform an oral exam, and take digital images of your teeth and gums. You must not have any signs of infection or gum disease. In some cases, after gum disease or infection is treated, we can re-evaluate your candidacy for All-On-Four dental implants.

There are a few conditions that may rule you out as a candidate for All-On-Four implants, including uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders, a compromised immune system, heavy smoking, active cancer, and ongoing radiation treatment.
